ere
you have
an e-book (electronic book) about this vital
subject: How to become a better instructor,
so that your students will perform better
and learn more, while having a great time
doing so. Being a present or coming teacher/instructor
you can never have too much quality information
about these subjects!
|
An
electronic book is delivered either in .pdf
or .exe-format, and can be read on your
computer, lap-top, palm (hand-held device) or
similar. The advantages are that the prices
are lower, and that you can gain access
immediately (normally these books are bought
and downloaded online).

Keith
Pascal
has a backgound as a professional teacher
as well as martial arts instructor. He scores
well by pinpointing the fact that the issue
of good and effective teaching and
coaching is not about jumping on the current bandwagon
or what is the latest fad - what is popular
or "in" at the moment. To
the contrary he claims that teaching and
learning are based (or rather, should be
based) on some functional, well tested, researched
and fundamentally sound methods. In this
book he starts out with showing some of
the small steps that are required to bring
about change - in other words how easy it
is hold better classes and create and maintain
a good learning environment.
|
The
author has many interesting takes on various
methodical approaches, as well as how to
develop yourself as a teacher and instructor.
One such take is how he can start with a
"perfectly" executed technique
or class. He then "subtracts" the
present level of the student or class as
a whole. The gap between these two levels
is what the teacher then needs to fill.
This method is quite crafty, simply because
it gives you a possibility (clearer, as
well as faster) to see what the individual
student or class needs in order to obtain
maximum results.
|
It's
obvious that Pascal is a teacher that
speaks with a great degree of knowledge
and experience. And even though a few of
the things being presented here are geared
towards the arts that he teaches (anything
else would be strange really), the underlying
principles are universal. In other words,
it doesn't make a difference if you're into
MMA, judo, karate, taekwondo, kickboxing,
grappling, kung fu or anything else. The
tone throughout the book is easy and pleasent,
and there's a wealth of information to be
found!
|
All
in all this is a book that I really would
recommend to anyone doing martial arts,
martial sports or budo. And it really
doesn't make a big difference if you're
a teacher or student. From both perspectives
you will be hard pressed not to gain new
insight. If you are very experienced in
teaching the arts, then maybe not everything
here is totally new to you - after all we
are talking about the very fundaments of
quality teaching here!. Any how: This is
a great book! Anything negative? Yes, the
lousy cover image that, sadly, gives
a rather bad impression of the book.
