Longhurst wrote the epilogue for "The Text-Book of Ju-Jutsu"
an old book written by av S. K. Uyenishi (read
more about it by
clicking here). Longurst also wrote
this book (click
here).
|
Longhurst's
book is almost identical to the aforementioned
book by Uyenishi. The drawings are
copies of the pictures in Uyenishi's
book. It seems kind of strange that there
are no explanations to this fact. It is
however highly unlikely that Longhurst would
have gone through with issuing these books
without some sort of arrangement with Uyenishi.
|
The
two books shown here are also identical
from what I can see. The plain green one
is a hard cover book, and it's printed in
the US. The lower one is paper-back, and
printed in the UK. Probably they were intended
for these two markets individually.
|
Percy
Longhurst was an English wrestler (most
probably a
"catch-wrestler", that is: freestyle).
He became acquainted
with Yukio Tani og S. K. Uyenishi
through W. E. Barton-Wright (the person
who introduced ju jitsu to England in the
early 1900's). Longhust started "The
British Ju Jitsu Society" together
with three other gentlemen, and became Tani's
pupil. In turn Longhurst introduced the
art to various police departments (The London
Metro Police amongst them).
|
It
is hard to tell the exact date these books
were printed. No year of printing can be
found in any of them. It is probable that
they are printed some time around 1930.
In chapter 1 it says: "It is no more than thirty years
ago since Ju-Jutsu found its way into England;..."

Every
bit of information, and each and every technique
is the same stuff you will find in
the book by Uyenishi: "The
Text-book of Ju-jutsu".
