his
is the second edition of a book that was
originally in use for the American Army
(US Marines) during the WW-2. While
it is hard to come by, the original, first
edition is very hard to find. From
the preface to the book it is told that
it was meant as an offer to civilians if
this should be needed. I gather that this
implies in case of a direct attack
on the US by foreign troups, or hostile
activity on American soil.
|
It
is written in the preface: "With more and
more men being called into Uncle Sam's Armed
Forces daily, the burden of protecting the
home folks is doubly great for those of
us left behind."
|
The
techniques that we are being presented with
are shown either with pictures or drawings.
As well there is text to explain each technique
in detail. Some techniques are explained
in text only.

As
a manual this book is probably of some limited
value to anyone with a greater degree
of experience in the arts. Of course there
are things that will be new to the less
experienced practitioner, and this is to
all of us an interesting document of that
period. It is a rather strange paradox that
the American Army makes no attempt to cover
the fact that they present the unarmed combat
methods borrowed of their enemies during
that time, namely the Japanese.

For
your information, there was printed a smaller
booklet based on this book. This booklet
was titled: "How to use Jiu
Jitsu for men and women", and you can
read about this one, simply by going here!
