Jujitsu
- basic techniques of the gentle art
|
|
his
book is written by the well known ju jitsu
personality George Kirby from USA. It is
the first of two similar books on the subject. You can read about the
other one here (coming soon).
|
In
addition to discussing the philosophy of
the art as well as some technical principles
of ju jitsu, Kirby goes on to show a number
of different techniques. Apparently there
is very little logical progression to the
methods being presented here. Or rather:
If there is such a logical progression,
it is hard to find for the casual reader.
The books by Kirby seems to be of the: "Look
how much stuff I know - impressed, yes?"
variety.
|
To
me the overall motive is lacking - besides
showing off a great number of techniques,
that is. As such I am confident that the
book can give some perspectives to a beginner
as to the almost infinite varieties
presented within the art. To a beginner,
the book may even prove inspirational simply
because of the many techniques being shown.
|
If
you are a "technique-collector"
(bitten by the rather common: How Many Defenses
Against a Wrist Grab Do You Know Syndrome"
:-), then this one here is for you. As stated
above it may also prove of great value
to a beginner within the arts.
